What we do

C.A.S.S. offers a range of services throughout North and West Cumbria, which aim to meet the needs of homeless people, those who are threatened with homelessness and those who have other accommodation difficulties. We do this through the provision of a number of different types of service:

What is temporary supported accommodation?

C.A.S.S. has temporary accommodation (for a period of up to two years) in the form of bedsits, self-contained flats and shared houses. Workers support residents to establish themselves in this accommodation and to create a solid base from which to prepare for future independent living. Efforts are made, by the worker and resident together, to tackle difficulties (which have often contributed to some form of offending behaviour) and if needs are identified that are outside the remit of support provided by C.A.S.S., residents are encouraged to make and maintain contact with additional professional services. Provision specifically for young people and those with a history of alcohol and other drug related difficulties is available.

We have a number of schemes offering temporary supported accommodation. Details of these schemes can be found by clicking on the link on the left-hand-side.

How does C.A.S.S. provide support?

As well as providing support to residents of our temporary accommodation schemes C.A.S.S. can provide support to those in other accommodation as well as to those who are homeless. For those who are already accommodated, the specific nature and level of support required may vary widely and workers are careful to tailor provision to match individual needs. For those who are homeless, workers may support service users in accessing accommodation.

How does C.A.S.S. provide advice?

C.A.S.S. has a flexible and responsive approach to providing housing and benefits related advice. Surgeries are held in drug and alcohol agencies and local Probation Service offices but appointments can be offered in other locations if more appropriate.
