About C.A.S.S.

C.A.S.S. is a small voluntary organisation with charitable status and a local committee of volunteers and representatives from other housing agencies. We have a key focus of preventing homelessness among offenders and other vulnerable groups and provide a range of services including: temporary supported accommodation, short term support and housing and benefits related advice

We only work in Cumbria providing this range of services in four of the six Local Authority areas – Carlisle, Allerdale, Copeland and Eden with office bases in Carlisle, Workington and Penrith. C.A.S.S. was established in 1988 and opened its first accommodation for three homeless people in Carlisle. Initially run by volunteers C.A.S.S. took on its first staff member in 1993 and since then has grown into a team of twenty-nine workers. As an alternative to larger hostels for homeless people, C.A.S.S. provides accommodation generally in the form of self-contained flats and two-person shared houses. We can currently provide temporary accommodation for up to sixty-one people, support up to seventy-five people and advice to many others.
